Zachary “Zach” Smith
Background
Zach was born and raised in Greenville, SC. He attended the University of South Carolina and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in 2006. Following undergrad, Zach pursued his law degree, and he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2009. Zach was admitted to the South Carolina Bar later that same year.
After graduating from law school, Zach returned to his hometown of Greenville, SC, and he spent over 16 years working at a large insurance defense firm, where he practiced exclusively in the area of workers’ compensation representing employers and insurance companies in a diverse assortment of workers’ compensation claims. The time spent on the defense side not only allowed
Zach to gain both litigation and appellate experience, but it also provided him with an understanding and knowledge of what insurance companies are looking for when defending and valuing workers’ compensation claims.
Zach decided to use his experience to help injured workers in South Carolina navigate through the workers’ compensation system, and he joined Smith & Jones Law in 2026.
Zach lives in Greenville with his wife Leslie, an elementary school teacher, and their three sons: Gibson, Gaines, and Givens. Outside of work, Zach enjoys spending time with family on the lake, coaching his boys’ sports teams, and watching college football.
